Description
Mesa/Boogie Dual Rectifier – High-Gain NAM Capture Red Channel (Modern Mode) + BOSS SD-1 boost • Available on Tone3000 Tight low-end, bold mids, sizzling highs—made for modern metal & high-gain rock. Mic’d with a Shure SM7B (on-axis, cap-edge). While known for vocals, the SM7B also works great on guitar amps. Compared to an SM57, it captures a slightly wider image, helping avoid thin or pinched tones. SM57 brings more edge, but the SM7B is easier to place and less prone to phase issues—especially in single-mic setups. ⸻ Capture Chain • Re-amp interface: IK Multimedia TONEX Capture — LEVEL knob set to 12 o’clock (≈ –12 dB pad) • Send Level: approx. –9 dBu RMS at amp input (RME UCX set to +4 dBu mode, DAW output at –10 dBFS RMS) • Return Level: adjusted so DAW reads –10 dBFS RMS (≈ +3 dBu RMS) • Signal Path: SM7B → Chandler TG2 → Rupert Neve 551 (slight EQ during recording) → WesAudio NG76 (gentle harmonic compression) No post-EQ, no IR—this NAM model was trained on the raw mic’d signal. ⸻ Note: Although this capture was tagged with “–10 dBu send/return,” actual RMS levels were closer to –9 dBu (send) and +3 dBu (return). For NAM plugin users: To get the most accurate playback, try setting the plugin’s Input Level to +3 and enable “Calibrate Input.” ⸻ Quick Gear Recap Mesa/Boogie Dual Rectifier • BOSS SD-1 • Marshall 2536 (2×12 V30)
