Description

This 10-inch Celestion G10 VT Junior speaker delivers a modern UK character with bright attack, clear mid presence, and dynamic responsiveness. Housed in my Marshall SV20C tube combo, a faithful 1959SLP-inspired recreation, it captures that classic British crunch while remaining polite and versatile. The speaker benefits from careful gain and bass knob adjustments to bring out its resonance, providing a lively tonal foundation for guitar performance. While less fat than a classic G12, it shines in both rhythmic and overdriven passages, revealing interesting nuances when the bass is dialed in. This speaker is paired with 13 microphones spanning vintage and modern eras. Each speaker is carefully prepared before capture to ensure optimal performance and consistency. Speakers undergo a minimum one-hour cycle of white, pink, and brown noise, pushing them to the point of mechanical rattling to minimize unwanted artifacts during recording. Sine wave cycles are used intermittently to further evaluate speaker behavior and maintain sonic integrity. All microphones are maintained in a dust-free, dark environment to guarantee accuracy. During recording, a 30-second sine sweep is used, passing through a neutral preamp, a linear power amplifier, and the reliable Fosi Audio V1.0G before reaching the speaker. Microphones are powered via a Behringer MIC500 USB with Brimar 12AU7 WA tube. Noise removal is applied only when necessary to preserve the original sound. Post-processing includes normalization at -3 dB, DC offset removal, and Voxengo Deconvolver with MP transform, followed by final normalization at -0.3 dB. This methodology ensures every speaker and microphone combination is faithfully represented, providing clean, consistent, and high-fidelity impulse responses for all applications. While the speaker is polite as-is, it’s not the last word in bass. Careful gain and bass knob adjustments reveal additional resonance. Its bright UK character ensures that both clean and slightly overdriven passages retain clarity and definition. This modern British tone, captured through meticulous methodology, is ideal for guitarists seeking authentic amp and speaker IRs with dynamic, expressive behavior.
