Description

This pack focuses on a compact British tube amplifier paired with a rare French solid state EQ and preamp, captured as a cohesive studio style signal chain. Originating from the United Kingdom and France and spanning the late 1960s to the early 1970s, these devices represent two different design philosophies that complement each other well. Sound City Studio 20 1967 British tube amplifier designed for studio and rehearsal use, featuring multiple inputs and a straightforward valve power section. In this setup, the Studio 20 is used as the main tone generator and deliberately pushed into power amp saturation rather than preamp distortion. The amplifier is fitted with JJ ECC82 preamp tubes branded for Marshall, a Bugera 12AX7A, Reflektor 6P14P-K power tubes, and a Mullard EZ81 rectifier. The capture highlights the raw dynamic response, midrange authority, and compression that occur when the output stage is driven hard. Musique Industrie Traffic 901 EQ and preamp circa 1973 French solid state equalizer and preamp produced during the brand’s short lived activity in the early 1970s. Positioned before the Sound City input stage, the Traffic 901 is used to introduce grit just before hitting the amplifier. The capture emphasizes how the unit interacts with a tube amplifier when used as a tone shaping and drive source.
