Viking 88 reel-to-reel (HTET)

This NAM model was trained from an HTET emulation of the Viking 88, focused on capturing its overall analog behavior, saturation, and characteristic dynamic response. HTET reproduces the interaction between electronics, tape, and audio signal, prioritizing the system’s nonlinear behavior rather than a simple frequency response. This allows it to capture natural compression, progressive saturation, and the typical tonal coloration of the machine. The Viking 88 tends toward a more direct and aggressive character compared to other tape machines, with tight low end, forward mids, and saturation that becomes more apparent as input level increases. Its sound is useful when density and presence are desired on buses or full mixes.
