Description

This Echolette LE2 12-inch 16-ohm ceramic guitar/PA speaker from 1959 comes from a fully refurbished original cabinet, restored to period-correct specs and parts. It’s part of a 4-way speaker system and paired with a Klemt Echolette M40 tube amp and an Echolette NG51 tube preamp with tape delay for authentic vintage tone. The IRs are delivered in three versions, each captured with 13 microphones spanning vintage and modern eras. Mid and Tweeter files are separated and unprocessed, allowing natural mic bleed that preserves tonal balance. These can be considered “normal” (mid) and “bright” (tweeter) takes. The Full Cab captures merge both sources, with the tweeter set at -4 dB relative to the mid for a natural balance while retaining clarity. The speakers were carefully prepared before recording. Each driver was run through a minimum one-hour cycle of white, pink, and brown noise, interrupted with sine sweeps to evaluate and stabilize behavior. All microphones were maintained in a dust-free, dark environment and powered via a Behringer MIC500 USB equipped with a Brimar 12AU7 WA tube. Signals passed through a neutral preamp and linear power amplifier to the speaker. Noise removal was applied only when necessary to preserve original sonic character. Post-processing included normalization at -3 dB, DC offset removal, and Voxengo Deconvolver with MP transform. IRs were then normalized to -0.3 dB, delivering clean, consistent, and high-fidelity impulse responses. Every microphone-speaker combination is faithfully represented, suitable for vintage-style recordings, modern guitar setups, or experimental applications.
