Description

I used a Beyerdynamic M201TG microphone to make impulse responses of my 2002 Mesa Boogie 4FB Traditional Straight 4x12 cabinet loaded with Celestion Vintage 30 speakers. The M201 was used on all four speakers and have uploaded on-axis IRs in 0.25 inch (~0.6cm) increments from 0.00” to 1.00” (2.54cm) from the cap. I set the mic both on the grille and back by 0.5” (1.27cm). I also updated my Mesa 4x12 - Shure SM57 pack to provide explorations in proximity effect. The M201 did not add paper-y highs when moved back. The starting point for me is on the center of the cap on the Lower Left speaker. The M201 is smooth enough to point at the cap center. The high frequencies tapered off very quickly as I moved away from the cap with the M201. I used a CAPI VP28 microphone preamp. I thought that the IRs were dark enough and didn't see the need to try a Neve-ish preamp. 24Bit 48kHz - 500ms - MPT Format Naming Convention V30 <speaker position> 4FB 4x12 M201 <Distance from Center> <Distance Off Grill> <Off Axis Angle, if applicable> <Microphone Preamp> Speaker Positions are LL – lower left, LR – lower right, UL – upper left, UR – upper right Equipment Used: -Beyerdynamic M201TG -Behringer A800 Power Amp -CAPI VP28 Microphone Preamp -RME UCX II Audio Interface -Voxengo Deconvolver 10sec sine sweeps were used to excite speaker
