API Terms of Service
Effective Date: July 7, 2026
Welcome to the TONE3000 API. By generating API keys or accessing the TONE3000 API, you agree to these API Terms of Service, in addition to our Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, and Tone Sharing Policy.
License
We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, revocable license to use the API to build applications and hardware that work with TONE3000.
This license does not allow you to resell API access, sublicense it to others, white-label TONE3000 services, or use the API or its content to build a competing tone platform or catalog.
The Neural Amp Modeler (NAM) format, including A2 and A1, is open source and free to implement in any product. These terms govern access to the TONE3000 API and catalog, not the NAM format itself.
API Keys
- Keep your secret key confidential. Never include it in client-side code, mobile apps, or firmware.
- You are responsible for all activity under your keys.
- We may revoke or suspend keys at any time for violations of these terms.
Acceptable Use
- Respect rate limits and do not circumvent them.
- Do not bulk download, scrape, mirror, or cache the TONE3000 catalog. Only download models when a user requests them.
- Deliver content on a per-user, authenticated basis. Do not preload catalog content onto devices or bundle it with your product without written permission from TONE3000.
- Do not redistribute, republish, or make catalog content available outside your integration. This includes hosting tones on your own servers, sharing them through other platforms, or distributing them to users who did not request them through the API.
- Do not strip, hide, or alter creator names, tone metadata, or license information.
- Do not use the API to collect user data beyond what is needed for your integration.
No White-Labeling
You may not white-label TONE3000 services. Browsing, search, tone delivery, capture, and training must be presented to your users as TONE3000, under TONE3000 branding.
Do not present the API, the catalog, or the training infrastructure as your own service, your company's service, or a third party's service.
All access and training runs through your integration are tied to the end user's TONE3000 account. Do not proxy, pool, or intermediate user accounts through accounts you control.
Creator Content
Tones and models belong to their creators. The API gives you no ownership of any content, only the ability to deliver it to the authenticated TONE3000 user who requested it.
Each tone carries a license chosen by its creator (e.g. T3K, CC BY, CC BY-NC), as described in our Tone Sharing Policy. Your application must respect and preserve these licenses, including attribution where required.
You may not present creator content as your own or as your company's.
User Data
- Access tokens may only be used on behalf of the user who authorized them.
- Delete a user's data from your systems if they revoke access or ask you to.
- Handle all user data in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
Commercial Use
Evaluating and developing against the API is free for everyone. Shipping a product falls into one of two tiers:
Free: You may build and publish TONE3000-enabled products for free if your product is non-commercial. This means free and open software or hardware with no paid product, or upsell. Examples include open source projects, DIY guitar pedals, research projects, and community tools. Free tier integrations may only use the OAuth prompt flows (select_tone and get_tone) and bounded list endpoints (favorited, downloaded, created, trending and latest) documented at tone3000.com/api. TONE3000 may, at its discretion, provide design, engineering, or promotional support for outstanding free integrations.
Commercial: If you charge for your product, or your product promotes or accompanies a paid product, a commercial agreement is required. Commercial products may use the full API, including all CRUD endpoints. Contact us at support@tone3000.com to learn more.
Commercial integrations must be reviewed and signed off by TONE3000 before they are publicly published or announced. Free tier integrations do not require sign-off, but access may be revoked if the integration does not follow guidelines.
Branding and Attribution
- Identify TONE3000 in your product with “Powered by TONE3000”, following our brand assets and guidelines. We encourage the same in your marketing, packaging, and product listings.
- Link to https://www.tone3000.com on your website, in your product, documentation, README, or product page.
- Do not alter the TONE3000 logo or imply endorsement, certification, or an official partnership without written approval.
- Commercial integrations must be approved by TONE3000 before public launch or announcement.
Design Requirements
Use of the TONE3000 API in your product requires following our design guidelines. Email support@tone3000.com for more information.
Paid Content
TONE3000 may offer paid or premium tones in the future. Access to paid content through the API may be subject to additional terms.
Capture and Training
We are currently piloting a training endpoint that allows your users to create NAM files via our cloud training infrastructure directly in your products. If you are interested, contact us at support@tone3000.com.
The training endpoint has separate commercial terms based on compute costs.
Training is a TONE3000 service delivered to your users through their TONE3000 accounts. It may not be white-labeled or resold as your own service.
Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law:
- TONE3000 is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages resulting from your use of the API.
Indemnification
You agree to indemnify TONE3000 against claims arising from your application, your products, or your violation of these terms.
Termination
We reserve the right to suspend or revoke API access for violations of these terms.
Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, USA.
Changes to These Terms
We may update these terms periodically. Continued use of the API constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
