Description
Vintage solid-state legend, an early '80s Peavey Backstage with the pioneering Saturation™ circuit. This amp delivers a nominal 20 watts RMS through a single 10" driver with Peavey's then-new "Saturation" circuit, a huge step forward in solid-state technology and became the foundation of many Peavey amps to follow. Pre and post gain controls with the unique dual-pot saturation control allow you to dial in the amount of distortion and compression, emulating tube amp characteristics remarkably well for solid-state. This humble practice amp achieved legendary status when Julian Casablancas of The Strokes ran his vocals through his Peavey practice amplifier for their debut LP "Is This It," creating that iconic lo-fi vocal distortion that defined early 2000s indie rock. Josh Homme also revealed the Peavey Decade (the Backstage's sibling) as his "secret weapon" for Queens of the Stone Age's signature guitar and bass tones, particularly on "No One Knows." Captured with a Shure SM57 w/ flat EQ at multiple gain stages, pushing both the preamp section and the signature Saturation™ circuit from clean to absolutely demolished. Everything from warm, slightly compressed cleans to the raw, harmonically rich overdrive that made these unassuming amps secret weapons in studio.
