P&PS: Plug & Play Series
Hello everyone! I'll be starting a series of NAM captures/profiles where the goal is simple: you just plug in your guitar and get the 'Raw' sound of a specific band or album.
What do I mean by "Raw"?
Essentially, there will be no post-cabinet EQ (unless it is strictly necessary to achieve the core tone) or effects placed after the cabinet or the IR so you can place efectos or EQ to your liking.
About P&PS:
P&PS will feature only real gear, or at least a genuine NAM profile/capture, standard plugins, and Raw IRs. Crucially, I will not use software dedicated to copy/match EQ or IRs specifically engineered to sound like a certain artist or track (e.g., Dimebag IRs, Metallica IRs, or FabFilter Pro-Q 2 for matching).
Next steps:
This first time, I took the necessary time to get as close as possible to the Ride The Lightning tone. If I see that people like it (and there is no hate, haha!), I might try to replicate and capture tones from other bands and albums in the future. (Request maybe place at the bottom of the list)
For the P&PS: Ride The Lightning Tone I used:
-Ibanez TS800 (L:Max, G:0, T: 1 O'C).
-MXR 10 Band EQ (Boost 500 around 5, slightly reduce the other bands in a V inversed shape but not much, Volumen at 6).
-Marshall JMP 2203 100W (B: 11 O'C, M: 3 O'C, T: 7 O'C, P: Noon, V: Noon, G: 8 O'C)
-Cab (Marshall 1960a G12-T75 Mic SM57, Marshall 1960a V30 Mic R-122V)
There are 4 Profiles:
00: Pedals+Amp+Cabs (Just Plug in and Play)
01: Amp+Cabs (Boost with the pedal of your choice)
02: Amp (Use whatever pedal, cab or IR you want)
03: Pedals+Amp+Cabs "My Personal Taste" (Everything the same, except for the amp. M: 8 O'C)
O'C= O'Clock
B: Bass
M: Mids
T: Treble/Tone
P: Presence
V: Master
L: Level
G: Pre-Amp/Gain
MPT: My Personal Taste
Since James' Marshall was stolen weeks before the RTL recording, Flemming supposedly rented many Marshall amps until James was satisfied with the sound. However, there were no notes or specific details about the recording, as there are for MOP, so I had to guess and test the equipment I used until I got close to the desired tone.
PD:
*Some tones take a lot of reseach, so I really hope you like them.
*The Tones could sound a bit "modern", but you can get pretty close with the 00.
Next: Annihilator's Alice in Hell.
