Vocal Chain

Here is a bulletproof live vocal chain to make sure a crappy FOH engineer doesn't wreck your gig. Here is what went into the rig: Multiband Comp: To tame the ugly frequencies and keep the dynamics tight right out the gate. SSL Channel Strip: comp and gain Pultec EQ: Adding that sweet top-end air and massive analog warmth. LA-2A: To smooth everything out with some fat, musical leveling. Oxford Limiter: Slapped at the very end of the chain to catch the peaks, brickwall it, and make sure nothing clips. Basically, you're sending a loud idiot-proof signal straight to the desk. The sound guy is still gonna roll off the lows and ring out the feedback, but at least you won't be left in the dark without proper compression, and you won't have to scream your lungs out just to be heard by the crowd. All they have to do is push the fader up or down!
