Description

The Yamaha MT50 is a compact 4-track cassette recorder designed for multitrack production on standard Type II cassettes. It features a four-channel record/playback head system, a DC-servo transport running at 9.5 cm/s with ±10% pitch control, individual MIC/LINE inputs, per-channel gain and EQ, pan controls, an aux send, and stereo mixdown capability. Its dbx noise reduction helps control hiss, and its preamp and mixer stages are known for their punchy, characterful sound when pushed. I use it for all my musical projects that require multitracking. The preamps are high quality and I’ll never part with them. Everything on this machine still works like a charm, and overdriven drums through it are a complete delight. For this capture I set the EQ to treble +2 and bass +2. This capture was made direct using a tube preamp equipped with a NOS Brimar 12AU7 / ECC82 WA tube. The resulting tone is bass heavy and wonderfully fuzzy when driven, just like the legendary Hendrix sound at the BBC.

There is something very wrong with the tape models (also the other 2) – it sounds like the offset wasn't compensated.
