Description

FENDER HOT ROD DELUXE III — CLEAN CHANNEL Full-rig captures of my Fender Hot Rod Deluxe III’s clean channel through its stock Celestion G12P-80 speaker. Each model includes the amplifier, speaker and microphone response, with different microphone positions offering alternative tonal flavours. The clean channel was captured with its Volume control at 6. “Clean” refers to the selected channel; the amount of breakup depends on the signal level driving the amp or model. MICROPHONES & POSITIONS Shure SM57 — available at 1 cm and 2 cm: • Edge OnAx — aimed at the outer edge of the speaker cone, on-axis. • CapEdge OnAx — aimed at the boundary between the dust cap and the cone, on-axis. • Center OnAx — aimed at the center of the dust cap, on-axis. • Edge OffAx — aimed at the outer cone edge, approximately 45° off-axis. NLP U87-style condenser — positioned at 7 cm: • Edge OnAx — aimed at the outer edge of the speaker cone, on-axis. • CapEdge OnAx — aimed at the boundary between the dust cap and the cone, on-axis. • Cardioid polar pattern, −10 dB pad engaged. OnAx means the microphone points straight at the speaker, perpendicular to its front plane. All distances are measured from the speaker grille. The microphone, position and distance are indicated in each model’s name. AMP SETTINGS Values refer to the amp’s numbered control scale, not clock positions.
