Arlington Audio - Neural Amp Modeler pack ------------------------------------------ Gallien Krueger - RB800 A staple of the 80's and early 90's, the GK RB800 was the amp to reach for when you were after something cleaner and more transparent than the typical Ampeg tone. Think Red Hot Chili Peppers, No Doubt, Radiohead, Nirvana, Green Day and early Tool (with Paul D'Amour). They're articulate, punchy and have a particular "Stringiness" that can sit well in many genres. Included in this pack are also 3 impulse responses to emulate the tonal characteristics of the switchable controls (Low Cut, Mid Contour and High Boost) which wildly transform the sound of the amp and should be used after the amp, before an impulse response. What I like about this particular amp is that it doesn't really need an IR, perhaps a low pass filter to tame the energetic highs but that's about all, especially when pushing this amp into overdrive. A super interesting aspect of the amp was its bi-amp capabilities which allow for a variable crossover. Low frequencies would be sent to an array of subs with the High frequencies to a standard bass cab. It's not too dissimilar to how modern mixing techniques treat the Bass guitar nowadays. That effect can still be emulated with this pack although it requires a little bit of set up to get going. Despite that, the RB800 holds its own as an amazing bass amp.
