I captured its sweet spot across 3 different gain stages, pushing the amp hard to capture the natural saturation, dynamics, and powerful Plexi character it is known for. Notice how the tone and gain evolve as you push the Volume knob of the amp. A lower Volume (H1) gives you less gain and more high-end. When pushing the volume, the amp doesn’t get really louder, but offers more gain and bass while rolling off the top end. I found three positions that really let this amp shine and added an old Ibanez® TS808 Tube Screamer from the 80s to boost the amp. The TS808 and the 1987X work like a charm together.
