Acoustic G60T / Celestion G12H-100

Acoustic G60T (Model 163) was built from 1983-1987. This G60T model 163 is a 60 Watt 1X12 combo. All-tube except the rectifier. Has two switchable channels for clean and preamp-gain with overdrive. General condtion is very good, and has been recently serviced. Minor pull in grill and small tear in tolex. Sounds are crystal clear cleans, and with the touch of a switch over drive tones reminiscent of the Mesa Boogie MKII which these were modeled after. The reverb is lush. Has a bright switch for twang, a polarity switch ,and standby switch so it is very easy on tubes. On the back panel is a speaker out and can be switched between 4 and 8 ohms. It has preamp out and poweramp in which may be used as an effects loop. If the poweramp in is used, the preamp is cut off. Also on the back are the footswitch jacks for channel and reverb switching. Boutique Tonal Profile: The amp’s tone is highly regarded for its Mesa Boogie MKII clone characteristics, drawing comparisons to early Dumble and Kitty Hawk circuits due to its rich, singing sustain. The clean channel is often compared to a Fender Twin but with a tighter mid-range focus, while the overdrive channel captures everything from soft bluesy crunch to aggressive, scooped high-gain rock tones.Notable Players: While the Acoustic Control Corporation is legendary for solid-state amps used by Albert King and Robby Krieger, the tube-driven G60T has its own cult following. Notably, indie rock icon J Mascis (Dinosaur Jr.) famously ran an Acoustic G60T head early in his career alongside his Marshalls, praising its warm, less trebly, and distinctively smooth texture.
