Description

Eight captures of the Bogner Ecstasy 101B through an Orange PPC212: six pedal-free Green, Blue and Red channel sounds, plus two Blue-channel lead sounds with a Browne Amplification Protein OD. All use SM57 + M160 microphones and the studio chain described below. GREEN CHANNEL — 3 CLEAN MODELS The Green channel of a Bogner Ecstasy 101B, captured with no extra coloring — a pure, foundational clean rather than a gain sound. It can sound plain on its own. But this is the kind of clean that has sat underneath studio productions since the '90s — the clean I've relied on in my own recording sessions and on stage. It comes alive the moment you add compression, chorus, or delay: it takes pedals and effects beautifully, and holds together no matter what you stack on top. The tone is a plain clean, but there's a little something in the way it was captured — my own small secret, if you like — that gives it a texture you won't quite get from recording an amp straight. Three captures are included, so you can dial in the brightness and body that suit your guitar and your song: Normal — the standard. Start here. Bright — leans into the highs; a touch firmer. Warm — leans into the low-mids; rounder and fatter. Mic'd with an SM57 + Beyerdynamic M160 ribbon, reamped through IK Multimedia TONEX Capture, and recorded through my studio outboard chain: Chandler TG2 → Rupert Neve Designs 551 → Radial MIX 2:1 → WesAudio ng76. Training data (specs) Normal — ESR 0.001156 (full) / 0.002812 (lite) ・ Loudness -17.81 Bright — ESR 0.001738 (full) / 0.006216 (lite) ・ Loudness -17.75 Warm — ESR 0.001288 (full) / 0.003018 (lite) ・ Loudness -17.40 BLUE CHANNEL — Ecstasy 101B Blue A late-'70s / early-'80s hard rock crunch, inspired by the rhythm tone of Back in Black. Tight lows, open mids, and just enough hair to let power chords ring — and it cleans up nicely when you roll back your guitar volume. Bogner Ecstasy 101B on the Blue channel, no pedals up front. Mic'd with an SM57 + Beyerdynamic M160 ribbon, reamped through IK Multimedia TONEX Capture, and recorded through my studio outboard chain: Chandler TG2 → Rupert Neve Designs 551 → Radial MIX 2:1 → WesAudio ng76. RED CHANNEL — Bog_HG_Red_711_retake / Bog_HG_Red_711_br A wide, balanced high-gain rhythm sound. Bogner Ecstasy 101B on the Red channel, straight into the amp with no pedals up front: the low end tight and supportive, with a touch of upper midrange that keeps power chords cutting through a dense mix. Think early-'90s instrumental guitar records. Two versions are included — the standard capture, and a brighter variant with more top-end air for busier mixes. Pick whichever sits best in your track. Mic'd with an SM57 + Beyerdynamic M160 ribbon, reamped through IK Multimedia TONEX Capture, and recorded through my studio outboard chain: Chandler TG2 → Rupert Neve Designs 551 → Radial MIX 2:1 → WesAudio ng76. Training data (specs) Normal — ESR 0.001600 (full) / 0.006900 (lite) ・ Loudness -17.26 Bright — ESR 0.001699 (full) / 0.008770 (lite) ・ Loudness -14.13 BLUE CHANNEL + PROTEIN OD — Ecstasy Blue — Protein OD / Ecstasy Blue Fat — Protein OD These two models include the Protein OD; the other six models do not. A smooth, singing lead, voiced after the expressive studio lead tones of the 2000s. Built on the Blue channel of a Bogner Ecstasy 101B with a Protein OD out front, it gives you a smooth midrange, musical sustain, and a natural response to your guitar's volume — roll it back and it opens up, dig in and it sings. Made for expressive lead lines, and just as inspiring for dynamic rhythm work. The Fat version adds a little more low end while keeping the same overall character and feel. There's a little something in the way these were captured — my own small secret — that helps them sit and sing in a busy mix. Mic'd with an SM57 + Beyerdynamic M160 ribbon, reamped through IK Multimedia TONEX Capture, and recorded through my studio outboard chain: Chandler TG2 → Rupert Neve Designs 551 → Radial MIX 2:1 → WesAudio ng76. Training data (specs) Normal — ESR 0.002119 (full) / 0.011010 (lite) ・ Loudness -13.24 Fat — ESR 0.002079 (full) / 0.009174 (lite) ・ Loudness -15.45
