Description

The Coron Live 30 is a quality solid state amplifier built in Korea in the 1980s, and it is far better than its obscurity suggests. Tonally it sits close to the Marshall Lead 12, with that same sharp, lively midrange and the ability to bark when pushed. With its preamp routed into a tube power section and a larger external speaker, such as a Greenback or a Celestion V-Type, it can even approach JCM800 territory. It is one of those compact solid state designs that hides surprising musicality behind a simple layout. For this capture I kept the EQ neutral with Volume, Treble, Middle, and Bass all set to 5. The goal was to document the gain structure, so Drive was set to 1 for the clean capture, 6 for the driven tone, and 10 for the quasi distortion setting. Even at the highest setting the line out remained clean and stable, with very little floor noise, which made it ideal for an accurate NAM profile. These captures were made using a Matribox II as the DI interface. They join my personal archive and are provided strictly for non commercial use.
