Description
Send it into the crunch channel. The FX56 American Metal is a high-gain distortion pedal by DOD. It first appeared around late 1984, becoming the 13th pedal in DOD’s FX series, and is often cited as one of their first “modern” distortion designs. At the time of its release, it was among DOD’s loudest, highest-output pedals. Published specs list a gain of 1000 V/V and a maximum output amplitude of 7 V peak-to-peak. The FX56 remained in production until around mid-1990, when DOD replaced it with the four-knob FX56-B “Super American Metal” version. In its promotional materials, DOD marketed it as a pedal that could “turn any amplifier into a heavy metal stack,” with “brilliant highs and fat lows.”
