Description

ENGL 4x12 Vintage 30 — Slate ML-2 IR Dual-Pack Overview A specialized pair of flat, uncolored Impulse Responses captured from an ENGL 4x12 Cabinet (Celestion Vintage 30s) using the Steven Slate Audio ML-2 modeling microphone. Recorded with no mic emulation profile applied, these raw captures preserve the full acoustic response of the cabinet while giving you total freedom to apply virtual mic modeling in post. This pack features two distinct voice captures recorded through an all-analog, high-end API preamps, and tracked through premium Apogee converters: 1. Normal Mode Circuitry: Uses the ML-2’s linear, flat headamp response with standard sensitivity. Frequency & Dynamic Response: Captures maximum detail, extended low-end depth, and a smooth, open frequency response across the entire spectrum. Best Used For: moderate-volume guitar cabs where you want the full harmonic resolution and wider frequency spectrum. In your IR Capture: The Normal IR will give you a fuller, broader, and more natural overall cabinet sound with rich low-frequency weight. 2. Dynamic Mode Circuitry: Engages an internal pad and alters the headamp behavior to handle extremely high sound pressure levels (SPL) without clipping or over-saturating the capsule. Frequency & Dynamic Response: Slightly tightens the low-end sub frequencies, tames extreme highs, and shifts emphasis toward the punchy midrange with a faster, snappy transient response (similar to how a traditional dynamic mic like an SM57 behaves under high volume). Best Used For: Extremely loud sources like high-gain cranked guitar amps. In your IR Capture: The Dynamic IR will sound punchier, tighter in the low-end, and more focused in the mix without needing low-cut filtering. Capture Details & Signal Chain Cabinet: ENGL 4x12 Pro Speakers: Celestion Vintage 30 (V30) Microphone: Slate Digital ML-2 (Raw / Uncolored profile) Voice Options Included: Dynamic & Normal Preamps: API 312 Converters: Apogee Digital Converters Format: High-Resolution IR (24-bit / 48kHz) How to Use Load either the Dynamic or Normal IR into your convolution cabinet loader. Place your microphone modeling plugin (such as Slate VMS) directly after the IR in your signal chain. Switch between virtual dynamic, ribbon, and condenser microphone models to instantly audition different tonal characteristics on the same performance.
