Flannel Channel (Free lite sample pack)

The sound of those awesome '90s records, using period correct gear with a few updates. These feature the same Neve 1057s that Michael Beinhorn used on the drums for Soundgarden's Superunknown, as well as the "tracked through Neve, mixed through SSL" philosophy of Andy Wallace that was part of the amazing sound of that era. I did sneak in a few pieces of contraband gear through the door. You'll be glad I did, though. To wit: Purists will note that the Distressor came out in '95, and Big Grunge was pretty much over by then. We all know the Distressor was *born* to rock this stuff, though. It's just too perfect. The Manley Vari-Mu came out in '94, so it just sneaks in. Again, it sounds awesome, especially on shoegaze textures. We did keep it period correct-ish with the T-bar mod. The Highland Dynamics BG2, set to the American mode, does the Altec 635a thing with aplomb-- and modern specs. Rupert Neve beamed his Shelford Channel in from 25 years in the future. It does the Neve 2254 thing perfectly, with higher rail voltage, less noise, but all the sonic glory.
