Description

Gibson EH-185 octal tube amp, as used by the classic jazz and swing era guitarists of the 1940s, captured with a single SM57 microphone on the center of the speaker. This is likely a 1941 or 1942 amp 2nd generation model of the amp, with a single bass/treble knob. It was set in the center "normal" for the capture. The speaker is a non-original, but period-correct Jensen field coil speaker. One capture of the instrument channel on volume 6, and one of the mic channel on volume 1.5-2 (more than that was insanely loud) It's a noisy old amp, so the ESRs weren't within 0.01, but sound pretty good to me. Difficult to get a good capture of the mic channel since it is so bloody loud that I couldn't get it past volume 1 without doing damage to my ears.
