Description

The SOD-2 is a budget overdrive pedal made in Korea in the 1980s and 1990s. The same design was sold under several brand names, including PSK, Pick Boy, RAK, Allsound and Music-Son. It uses soft clipping built around an LM308N op-amp chip, which gives smooth saturation. **Controls** Gain: Sets the amount of overdrive and saturation. Filter: Adjusts the brightness and EQ balance of the overdrive. This is a tone control, and other branded versions label it “Tone”. Level: Sets the output volume. Some remarks about the captured pedal: With the filter knob turned up all the way the pedal doesn't sound particularly bright but it gets muffled on lower settings. That's why I left it on 10 in all captures. With the gain on 0 and volume on 10 there's no significant boost noticeable. I captured this setting nevertheless because it seems to color the tone somehow. Might be useless though. There is a significant increase in the gain when turned from 0 to 2, then a lower increase up to 5 and then an even lower increase up to 10.
