Description

The Sonicware Liven Lofi 12 is a compact old school style digital sampler designed for creative sound design and hands on sequencing. It features a 12 bit inspired sampling engine, a flexible sound editor, filter and amp envelopes, per track effects, live performance controls, and a full multitrack note sequencer with motion recording. It also offers MIDI input and output for external control, pattern chaining, real time sampling, resampling, and a built in speaker for quick sketching. The Lofi 12 is built around a workflow that encourages gritty sample manipulation, punchy drum programming, and nostalgic digital textures reminiscent of classic hardware samplers. For this capture the signal runs from the line output into the headphone output stage. The headphone output offers three modes called soft, normal and loud. After normalization there was no meaningful difference in the sonic character between these modes, or the differences are so marginal that they are effectively inaudible in a NAM context. I still produced three separate NAM files with different peak levels to respect the output structure of the machine. Soft peaks at minus 6 dB, normal peaks at minus 4 dB, and loud peaks at minus 2 dB. This keeps things consistent and avoids ending on a disappointing note. Enjoy the texture this little sampler can bring to your signal chain. Everything was captured using the Matribox II as the DI, which provides a clean and reliable interface for all my recent profiling sessions.
