Description

This capture chases the elusive sweet spot where clean and dirty tones blur together — that touch-sensitive threshold where pick attack alone decides whether a note stays glassy or blooms into grit. Built around a Two Rock platform (the amp brand most associated with that exact breakup character — think Bloomfield/Sensor-style circuits voiced for headroom and harmonic complexity rather than raw gain), the capture is shaped by the full front-of-amp chain rather than the amp in isolation. The 1981 Inventions LVL sits ahead of the amp as a clean, transparent gain stage — it's less a "pedal" in the coloration sense and more a level/impedance utility that pushes the Two Rock's front end harder without smearing the tone, nudging the amp closer to that breakup edge on its own. The Xotic SP Compressor rides always-on ahead of everything, evening out pick dynamics and adding sustain and note bloom without squashing transient bite — critical for a breakup tone, since compression shapes how long a note takes to decay into breakup rather than staying clean. The Xotic EP Booster (a treble-booster-style circuit descended from the classic Echoplex preamp) adds the final push: a mid-forward, slightly compressed boost that thickens the upper-mid harmonics and is largely responsible for tipping individual notes and chords over into that warm, singing breakup rather than full overdrive. Together, this signal path — compressor into level boost into treble booster into a Two Rock-voiced amp — captures a tone that cleans up beautifully when you back off your guitar's volume or pick lighter, and breaks into rich, harmonically complex overdrive as you dig in. It's the archetypal "amp-in-the-room" dynamic tone: not a fixed gain setting, but a responsive edge that lives entirely in your hands.

Seriously, all that wall of text and no mention of the cab/mic signal chain?
