Description

My Headfirst Double Dirty Shirley, which itself is a clone of the Friedman Dirty Shirley. Sounds very similar to the real amp as the preamp circuit is the same (it has some additional features but can be set identically) and the power section is very similar (5881s + JTM45 style Hammond transformers). Might not exactly match the real amp as it doesn't have custom wound Friedman transformers but it gets really close to the real thing, maybe slightly more vintage/JTM45ish sounding. Instead of channel, S1/S2/S3 indicates the structure which can be thought of as the overall voice/gain setting of the amp. Basically S1 is more JTMish and cleaner, S2 is more JCMish and dirtier, and S3 is the most saturated and modded Marshallish. Technically the preamp is a modified/fattened up JCM800 2204 style preamp, but those structure descriptions are kind of analogous to how it works in practice. Additional features over a regular Dirty Shirley are a depth knob (like the Twin Sister), three-way bright switch, and 2 types of boosts (simple fat cap gain/girth boost and/or a high voltage FET solid state gain boost which kind of imitates a Jose gain stage but without a tube). These will be indicated in the capture name if they are present, otherwise the amp will voiced to more or less a stock Dirty Shirley with a depth knob (which is usually how I prefer voicing it). So a standard name would be: HF DDS S2 JCM Crunch-g65 b38 m75 t70 d40 p72 M30 i.e. "Headfirst Double Dirty Shirley Structure 2 JCM Style Crunch-gain 65% bass 38% middle 75% treble 70% depth 40% presense 72% Master 30%" And if the more subtle bright setting, Boost, and FET are included it would be: HF DDS S2 Br1 Bst FET JCM Crunch-g65 b38 m75 t70 d40 p72 M30 where Br1 would refer to the more subtle bright position. Br2 would indicate its the more aggressive bright position. And of course, no bright indicated means the bright switch is off.
