JCA Texas Flood, SRV Tone

The Texas Flood is a boost/overdrive pedal from JCA Pedals and Amps, handbuilt in Germany by Stefan Jahn. It is built to recreate the tone of Stevie Ray Vaughan’s debut album of the same name. Rather than copying a single overdrive circuit, the builder says it simulates SRV’s whole signal chain, aiming for the touch-sensitive, edge-of-breakup sound of a good tube amp. It is designed to sit in front of a clean amp, and it suits blues, rock and country as well as SRV-style playing. **Controls** Sustain: Sets the gain. Low settings add amp-like character and sustain, and it moves into gentle overdrive past roughly 9 o’clock. Volume: Sets the output level. Body: A tone control that shapes the low end. Sweet: A tone control that shapes the high end. **Usage tips** Keep your amp clean and let the pedal supply the breakup. Lower Sustain settings suit clean-to-crunch work, and higher ones thicken things toward lead tones. Here I just varied the sustain knob and kept all other knobs at around 1 o'clock.
