Description
Here's a colorful 1073 clone with discrete construction and Carnhill input/output transformers. I made two different models of the microphone input which I hope people will find useful: Transformer Drive - 20 dB gain - input signal 0 dBFS = +19 dBu - output trimmed and padded 20 dB to avoid clipping converter I tweaked the gain and output levels to saturate the input transformer as much as I could here. Has a lot of even harmonics until about -12 dBFS where the initial gain stage transistor starts overloading. The output stage starts overloading around -6 dBFS. Depending on input level, great for warm saturation, transient smoothing, and peak clipping. Mic Mojo 55 dB gain (second gain stage engaged), input signal 0 dBFS = -21 dBu (input padded 40 dB), output trimmed and padded 11 dB. Simulates what the preamp would do to a mic signal at a slightly hotter than usual setting. Slowly increases in saturation around -6 dBFS but never fully clips. Great for adding a little magic sauce anywhere - vocals, guitar DI, mix buss etc. These models are in 44.1k because that's the sample rate I usually work in, and I don't like the distortion that NAM's resampling produces when using 48k models in a 44.1k project. Captured with a Babyface Pro and an XLR pad. EQ bypassed.
