Description

This is a capture of a 60s Vox AC50 cab, that has been retrofitted with Celestion Creamback G12H30 speakers, one with an RIC cone made on December 12th 1974 (SN: GM12X, date code printed backwards, cone stamp RIC1 JP) and the other with a very early unstamped Kurt Mueller cone (deduced from cone type and pen markings on cone) from August 14th 1975. The Kurt Mueller cones would continue to be used during the Blackback-period, so this is basically a very early Blackback with a 75 Hz lead cone and a heavy magnet. These kinds of speakers could have apparently been found in cabs by Marshall, Orange, Carlsbro and Laney, among other British manufacturers. The cab has an open back, with a horizontal hole that's about the height of the middle horizontal third of the cab, with wood slabs on top and bottom. Another notable feature of the cab are the wooden bars that are vertically in front of the center of each cone. The speakers were miced with vintage Sennheiser MD441 and MD421 microphones from a distance of about 5 inches. Captures were taken once at the very center and once slightly moved over to the side, so the bar wouldn't be right in front of it. You can find the rest by signing up to my Patreon. The first week is free! A 120w solid-state Orange amps power amp was used to power the signal sweeps at a considerable volume, while being careful not to overload the signal or blow the speakers.
