Description

1957 Magnatone 260 Early Magnatone 260 model. Original Speakers. This is before they added the brigh/mellow switch and the sound tends to be a bit more mid-forward and smoother than the later models that are a lot cleaner. It's truly a shame that the true pitch shifting vibrato can not be captured because that is the magic part of these amps. However This is a versatile amp even with out the vibrato: the cleans are nice and smooth, the dirtier tones are very rock-n-roll and on full blast (with the channels jumpered) the lead tones are creamy and singing! Neil Young famously has a similar era magnatone in his rig. PS. I often use this to reamp bass, a great bass sound paired up with a clean DI! Captured with 3 volume levels: A: Low and Clean B: Loud with a bit of Hair C: Both channels Jumpered and maxed out. Microphones: Sennheiser MD409 (dynamic), Cap-edge SE Electronics VR1 (ribbon), Cap-edge Mojave M301 FET (condenser), Cap-edge Sennheiser MD421 (Dynamic), Cap-edge Off axis AEA R84 (ribbon), backed up maybe 50cm Neumann U87 (condenser), backed up maybe 100cm All run through some really nice vintage mic-pres! Calibration: Send signal peaks around -7 dB All returning tracks adjusted to peak around -8 dB
