Fender Frontman 10G

My nephew needed a beginner amp so I bought this on FB Marketplace for $30. I figured I might as well run some captures of it for fun. It sounds cheesy, as one would expect, but there are also some surprisingly cool and useful tones in here especially with a bit of reverb and delay added in post. I captured with the classic R121 and SM57 combo in the standard position on the center cap. Both mics are equal gain, powered by Vintech 473 mic pre with a small boost in the lows and highs and sent through a Varis tube Vari-Mu compressor for some color. It got the pro recording treatment. Both the clean and OD channels were captured. The clean channel was captured at 4 different volumes, including cranked. The OD channel was captured at one volume level and 4 different gain settings. I settled on Vol 3 for the OD channel because any higher vol setting introduces the "boxy" sound of the cabinet. You can hear this occuring even on the clean captures. I didn't like this on the OD channel. Of all the tones, I really like the Clean channel with the volume all the way up. I thought it would be fun to include a capture of my Timmy pedal boosting the cranked amp....the juxtaposition of a sought-after expensive boutique pedal into a cheap ordinary amp.
