Description
Captures of my Pignose 7-100 battery-powered amp, low-gain, with its lid slightly ajar. I kept it open to shape the sound. Different mic positions and gap widths yield different results, as various mid frequencies are accentuated or attenuated. The effect can be subtle or quite pronounced — almost like a cocked-wah sound. In productions, I use this to find a complementary frequency range for the Pignose that sits easily in a mix, or pairs nicely with another cab in a bi-amping setup. Sometimes I reamp the signal from a bigger amp through the Pignose. Close-miked, it can sound surprisingly huge if you want it to. I recommend just experimenting to discover what this cool little amp can bring to your productions. I’ll probably keep adding captures to this collection over time. I'm open to suggestions on how to capure it; please use the comment section below. I'll probably capture the amp with an sm57 soon, and also experiment with miking the gap instead of the speaker, different widths. Let me know what you would like to hear. Have fun! Included models so far: Two close-mic captures, using an AKG P200 mic, added separately as well as combined in two different ways. Amp setup: low volume (almost clean), 1 cm gap between the lid of the cabinet; same gap and volume setting for both takes. Both versions use slightly different mic positions: number 2 was placed a bit closer to the center of the speaker than number 1. Combining both captures without time-aligning them (coincidentally) produced an interesting tone that cancelled some high end. Time-aligned, the sound was brighter and fuller. I added both here.
