Description

This IR pack captures a vintage Guyatone GSG-200234 6-inch speaker from the 1970s. It is unclear whether the speaker was fully manufactured in Japan or Korea, as many Guyatone products of this era were MIK despite Japan labeling. The sonic character is unmistakably Fender-style US voicing, similar to the tonal palette found in compact reference amps like the Fender Sidekick. The speaker delivers tight lows, clear mids, and sparkling highs, making it ideal for clean tones, mild overdrive, and classic small-amp textures. The full microphone collection was used for this capture. Each mic contributes its distinct character, from vintage Japanese dynamics to European classics. The IRs preserve the speaker’s natural response, harmonic balance, and overall vintage feel. Before recording, the speaker was conditioned with white, pink, and brown noise cycles, with intermittent sine wave sweeps to monitor cone behavior. A 30-second sweep was played through a neutral preamp and a linear power amplifier. Microphones were powered by a Behringer MIC500 USB with a Brimar 12AU7 WA tube, and noise removal was applied only when necessary to maintain integrity. Post-processing included normalization to -3 dB, DC offset removal, Voxengo Deconvolver with MP Transform, and final normalization at -0.3 dB. These IRs are clean, phase-consistent, and ready for any cabinet simulator, reamping session, or studio workflow.
