ALLOMORPH: ACTIVE STINGRAY BASS EDITION
Transform your active Music Man StingRay (4 or 5-string) or Sterling Ray34/Ray35/Ray4/Ray5 bass into 25 legendary vintage passive, modern active, progressive rock, and acoustic pickup configurations.
OVERVIEW
Allomorph turns your active Music Man StingRay into a versatile tonal chameleon. Instead of modeling an amplifier or speaker cabinet, Allomorph sits at the very beginning of your signal chain (Block 1 on the Darkglass Anagram) to reshape the actual sound, pickup response, and feel of your instrument.
The StingRay's bridge humbucker is famous for its punch, hollow mid-scoop, and metallic slap clank, but sometimes a gig calls for the warm, woody body of a neck split-coil, the wide-scoop of dual single-coils, or the dark thump of an upright. Allomorph bridges that gap, giving your StingRay:
• Classic Precision Bass warmth, woody low-mids, and Motown flatwound thump
• The iconic scoop of vintage '60s Jazz Basses and singing Jaco bridge growl
• Modern active slap preamps, boutique P/MM hybrids, and cutting progressive rock clank
• Warm vintage passive dynamics with organic tube-amp feel, replacing sterile active highs
• Acoustic upright double bass resonance for jazz and acoustic sessions
• Aggressive in-your-face series humbucker bark
Calibrated for 4 and 5-string 34" Standard Scale Active Music Man StingRay basses (USA StingRay 4/5, StingRay Special, or Sterling Ray34 / Ray35 / Ray4 / Ray5 / SUB) equipped with the iconic bridge sweet-spot dual-coil humbucker and onboard active preamp. Full wave-speed modeling down to 30.87 Hz ensures seamless calibration across both 4 and 5-string instruments (down to low B). Plug in, select a model, and hear your StingRay transform into a completely different instrument in real time with zero latency.
RECOMMENDED SIGNAL CHAIN
[Active StingRay Bass]
-> [Block 1: Allomorph Pickup Twin] (Input / Pickup Front-End)
-> [Block 2: Amp / Drive / Preamp] (Darkglass B7K, SVT, B-15, etc.)
-> [Block 3: Speaker Cabinet IR] (8x10, 4x10, 1x15, etc.)
-> [FOH / Audio Interface / DAW]
Why Block 1? Overdrive pedals and amps react directly to the resonant character of your pickups. Putting Allomorph first ensures downstream pedals and amp models distort the authentic growl of a P-bass split-coil, the scoop of a Jazz pair, or vintage tube-friendly passive dynamics, rather than an unshaped active DI.
QUICK INSTRUMENT SETUP
• 3-Way Mode Switch (if equipped on 5-string / Ray35): Set to Parallel (Position 1 / toward bridge)
• Onboard Active EQ (Bass, Treble, Mid): Set to Center Detents (Flat / 0 dB)
Plug straight in. Because the StingRay features a single bridge sweet-spot humbucker, all target models map directly to your physical humbucker. All pickup positioning, pot loading, tone capacitor shaping, and active preamp EQs are handled automatically by the models.
THE 25 DIGITAL TWIN VOICINGS
Precision Bass & Super P Family
01. Precision Vintage
The gold standard: a vintage 1962 Precision Bass with tone wide open. Warm, woody low-mids, open harmonic bloom, and organic touch sensitivity that sits perfectly in any mix.
02. Precision Active
Fender American Ultra II active split-coil P-bass tone with 18V 3-band active preamp. Punchy, articulate, and wideband with authoritative low-end weight and bright transient clarity—built for modern rock, gospel, and mix cutting authority.
03. Dingwall Super P
Dingwall SP1 multi-scale (32"–35") passive Neodymium Dual-P split-coil pickup. Combines fanned-fret low-end tightness with a focused 3.0 kHz passive Neodymium presence peak that cuts through dense mixes without an active preamp.
04. Precision Warm
The legendary Motown flatwound sound (James Jamerson / Pino Palladino). Fat, pillowy sub-bass thump with rolled-off highs that glues the groove together.
Jazz Bass Family
05. Jazz Pair Active
The quintessential NYC active '70s-spacing slap tone: tight, massive sub-bass and crisp, glassy highs with an upward-shifted '70s comb-filter scoop that pops right out of a dense mix.
06. Jazz Pair Open
The golden-era '60s Jazz Bass sound. Both pickups wide open deliver that iconic hollow midrange scoop, warm low-mids, and smooth, singing top-end.
07. Jazz Pair Series
Fender S-1 / 4-way series mod wiring both Jazz coils in series (15.4 kΩ total, 7.6 H). Eliminates the parallel mid-scoop for a hotter, thicker humbucker-like midrange roar with deep passive inductor roll-off.
08. Jazz Bridge Growl
The unmistakable Jaco Pastorius tone: rolling the neck volume back just a touch unlocks that singing, vocal, honky bridge growl without losing low-end body.
09. Jazz Neck Warm
Solo '60s neck single-coil. Deep, warm, and round with a woody low-end bloom that rivals a P-bass while retaining single-coil openness.
P/MM Modern Hybrids
10. P∕MM Parallel
Modern boutique session hybrid (Lakland 44-02 / Sandberg California style). Blends the woody warmth of a Split-P neck with the scooped slap bite and sparkling top-end of a parallel Music Man bridge humbucker through an active 3-band preamp.
11. P∕MM Series

Rickenbacker 4001/4003 Family

The quintessential prog-rock clank (Chris Squire / Geddy Lee). Tight, lean low end with biting, aggressive pick attack and cutting upper-mid grit.
15. Rickenbacker Vintage
Authentic vintage 4001 dual-pickup circuit with the 4.7nF high-pass capacitor engaged on the bridge pickup. Combines full-range neck sub-bass with biting bridge clank while eliminating 500 Hz phase cancellation.
16. Rickenbacker Neck
Solo 4001/4003 "Toaster / Hi-Gain" neck single-coil positioned at the 24th-fret harmonic node (210 mm). Scoops the 4th harmonic for a deep, woody fundamental while retaining a glassy 2.34 kHz roundwound presence peak (Paul McCartney / Al Cisneros).

17. Dingwall Bridge
Modern progressive metal tone: razor-sharp pick clank, extreme note clarity, and piano-like low-B definition tailored for drop tunings and heavy distortion.

FD3 bridge and middle coils in parallel: modern scooped aggression with ultra-fast transient attack, tight sub-bass, and pristine harmonic sparkle.
19. Dingwall Series
FD3 bridge and middle coils wired in series (Rotary Position 3): massive dual-pickup series humbucker midrange roar with fanned-fret low-end tightness and non-linear core compression.
Gibson Mudbucker & Hollow-Body Family

1958 Gibson EB-2 semi-hollow maple archtop with neck Sidewinder Mudbucker: combines deep 30H inductor sub-bass with warm 165 Hz semi-hollow air-cavity bloom and rapid woody sustain decay.
22. Mudbucker Baritone
Authentic Gibson EB-2 semi-hollow Baritone choke filter (2.5H inductor + 22nF capacitor). Attenuates sub-bass mud below 200 Hz while retaining semi-hollow acoustic resonance for a snarling, vocal midrange rock bark (Jack Bruce / Chas Chandler).
23. Hofner Violin Warm
1962 Höfner 500/1 Violin Bass fully hollow spruce/maple archtop with neck "Staple" humbucker: iconic 145 Hz hollow-body wood bloom, rapid thumpy sustain envelope, and warm Beatle-bass midrange.
