Amp Head - 50W Plexi Circuit - EVH 5150III 4x12 Load

I captured my DIY Plexi-based amp, attenuated, through my EVH 5150III 4x12 cabinet. I mic'ed a 16 ohm Celestion G12-EVH speaker with a Shure SM57. The amp has switchable components to approximate the 1986 Bass-Spec, 1989 Organ-Spec, and 1987 Lead-Spec late 60s Marshall Plexi circuits. The 1987 circuit has 3 bright cap variations (5000pF, no cap, 100pF). Each circuit was trained at two Volume levels for a difference in gain. The lower volume 1986 Spec captures were dialed down to get clean/edge of breakup sounds. Otherwise, I went for varying degrees of crunch. Full Rig captures are labeled 'FR'. No IRs needed. Mic positions are as follows: a - 1.00" (~2.5cm) from the cap center b - 1.50" (~3.8cm) from the cap center c - 2.00" (~5.1cm) from the cap center Tone settings are in the following order: (P)resence (T)reble (M)iddle (B)ass (V1)olume A few Amp Head Captures are also included for use with your favorite IRs. These captures are labeled 'DI'. The amp’s output was tapped by Suhr Reactive Load. I connected two 16ohm 4x12 cabinets in parallel to get an equivalent 8 ohms to load my amp. I will probably make captures of this amp loaded by a Suhr Reactive Load using the TTSV10 input and xSTD architecture in the future. An example of the naming convention for a Full Rig File: FR 1987 5000pF P-6 T-4 M-10 B-6 V1-6 G12-EVH SM57b VP28 -1987 Lead Spec with 5000pF Bright Cap -Amp settings of P-6 T-4 M-10 B-6 V1-6 - G12-EVH speaker was mic’ed with SM57 on axis, 1.5” from the cap -CAPI VP28 Mic Preamp used -Standard architecture Signal Chain: Steinberg UR824 Line Out - United Studio Technology Replay Box at 11.5dBu - Plexi-circuit Amp - Type M2 Attenuator - Suhr Reactive Load Thru - EVH 5150III 4x12 Cabinet (and other 4x12 in parallel) - Celestion G12-EVH - Shure SM57 - Chameleon Labs 7603/CAPI VP28 - Steinberg UR824 Line In The Suhr Reactive Load's unbalanced output was connected to my interface's instrument input. I took DI captures at the same time as I recorded through the cabinet. The use of the Suhr's Thru output bypassed its internal load to use the cabinet's load. I used a reactive attenuator that I built based on the popular Type M2 Attenuator design by JohnH at the Marshall Amp Forum. https://marshallforum.com/threads/simple-attenuators-design-and-testing.98285/ The amp was attenuated by 7dB to get it down to tolerable levels. The Standard files should load in NAM hardware loaders. Input calibration metadata for 11.5dBu was filled in during TONE3000 training. I also made impulse responses of the EVH 5150III 4x12. I mic’ed the Lower Left speaker if anyone feels like comparing a Full Rig to a DI + IR combo. The Full Rigs sound slightly thinner than the DI + IR combo. This could be due to the use of attenuator and two 4x12 cabinets in parallel in the Full Rig captures.
