Description

This pack contains several captures of the JCM 800 2203 preamp simulated in LTspice at various gain levels. Despite lacking the power section, it still delivers a hefty amount of rock 'n roll and I highly recommend you to try it. EQ settings are all set at 5. Sounds pretty balanced, but you can use your favorite EQ after to fine-tune to your liking if needed. Gain (Pre-amp Volume knob) settings are captured at positions 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 to cover most of the gain range of the amp. The High Sensitivity (Hi) input was used for all the captures. Don't forget to pair these captures with IRs of your choice. All captures are calibrated. Calibration: Input: +14.77 dBu ≘ 0 dBFS You may notice the lack of output calibration level. All my pedals always have in/out calibration metadata. But guitar amps typically go last in the signal chain and many times their signal levels are orders of magnitude above usual levels. So it's unnecessary and many times even impractical to include that data. This pack is a small departure from my usual stuff. I plan to make a FET adaptation of the JCM 800 preamp so I made these captures to use as a reference. ⚠️ Again, these captures are NOT derived from the physical hardware but from circuit simulation done in a SPICE environment. I try to make this very clear in my titles, descriptions and thumbnails so that I don't mislead any people. Of course that doesn't mean they can't sound just as good, provided they are done correctly. From my tests, where I compared other physical circuits to their SPICE simulated ones I couldn't hear any difference, other than what could be attributed to component tolerances. I can't say the same for commercial plugin versions of those circuits that I've tried. Some added bonuses of SPICE simulated gear is that component self-noise is usually not simulated, which results in better ESR results, and also that we can capture just the intended circuit and not a chain consisting of unrelated devices like DIs, Reamp boxes, audio interface preamps etc. which imprint their own character to the signal.
