Mooer Black Secret (Pro Co RAT-style Distortion) — 2 Modes, 2 Gain Stages Each Mooer is a company known for its compact and affordable guitar effects pedals. The Black Secret is a miniature clone of the legendary Pro Co RAT, featuring the same LM308 chip as the original, delivering that classic RAT character. The pedal has two modes: · Vintage: warm, smooth vintage distortion (classic RAT emulation). · Turbo: more powerful and aggressive with doubled output (Turbo RAT emulation). Please note: the tone control on this pedal does not work like a standard tone knob. It is a Low-Pass Filter, not a conventional Tone control. That's why we captured it with the Filter fully open (far left position) — with the full frequency spectrum, so musicians can shape the tone themselves to match their playing style. To replicate the Filter's behavior, you need to place an EQ after the NAM capture and cut the high frequencies (High-Cut / Low-Pass). This can be done inside the NAM player or in your DAW. For reference: with the Filter fully open (far left), the cutoff is above the audible range — around 32 kHz; at noon, it's around 1–2 kHz; at the fully closed position (far right, maximum muffled sound), it's around 500 Hz. These values are approximate, to give you an idea of how much high-end to cut. For these captures, the Distortion knob was set to two positions — Low and High. Captures were made in both modes: Vintage Mode: 1. Low 2. High Turbo Mode: 3. Low 4. High Each capture is a separate file. All sounds are normalized — levels are matched between captures. The dynamic range is carefully matched to fully cover the entire overdrive range of the pedal. If you want a light, almost transparent bite that just starts to grab at the notes — take the Low capture and back off the Gain a little. If you need a thick, aggressive, saturated roar that cuts through the mix — take the High capture and push the Gain higher. These captures are made so you don't just get a sound, but find your own edge, your own grit, and your own character.
