Description

ART Levelar (Tube/Optical Compressor/Limiter) — 2 Modes The ART Levelar is a single-channel tube/optical compressor. A great portable tool for a sound engineer. It delivers a warm, musical character reminiscent of classic tube limiters. The pedal is extremely simple to use: just a Threshold knob, an Output control, and a switch between Compress and Limit modes. Attack time is fixed (around 6.5 ms), and there is a Fast/Auto release switch. For these captures, the Fast/Auto switch was left in the Auto position, as the Fast mode did not translate well into the NAM format (the neural network produced an "inconsistency" error). This pedal introduced about 9 milliseconds of latency. This was removed during post-processing to minimize latency for real-time playing. Each capture is a separate file. All sounds are normalized — levels are matched between captures. 1. Comp (Compress mode) — gentle, smooth compression (ratio around 2.3:1) that preserves transients and adds subtle thickness. Best for vocals, acoustic instruments, or anything that needs a touch of control without sounding squashed. 2. Limit (Limit mode) — firmer, more aggressive leveling (ratio around 6:1). This mode starts to "knock" the sound around a bit more, adding punch and snap. Great for rock vocals, bass, or drums that need to cut through. Comp mode is the gentle, always-on sweetener. Limit mode is for when you want the compressor to work for a living and add some attitude.
