Description

I’ve uploaded Amp captures of my Ampeg Jet II J-12T combo from the 90s. It’s a 15W 2x12AX7 2xEL84 Class A amp with a Volume and Tone control. I tried to capture the full range of these controls since it’s a simple amp. Guitar Input (Gtr) Captures This is the higher gain input of the amp. The Volume control was captured from 2-10. I added 4dB of output volume compensation on the Volume at 2 to better match the volume of the other captures. The amp starts breaking up with the Volume at 3 and gets progressively crunchier. By the time you get the Volume from 8-10, the sound is overloaded and almost fuzz-like. Start with “DI J-12T Gtr V-5 T-5 SRL.nam” and choose your volume level for more or less dirt. Accordion Input (Acc) Captures I captured this amp input at Volume settings of 2, 5, 8, and 10. The manual says that this input is attenuated by 6dB for use with hotter signals. The difference in tone from the Guitar input is most obvious with high Volume levels. The Tone control was captured at 2, 5, 8, and 10 for both inputs. I found that 3-7 on this control sounded too similar to make incremental captures of. Eric Valentine has mentioned this amp a few times in his videos and interviews, in reference to his Smash Mouth productions. I captured this amp with a Suhr Reactive Load (SRL). I started getting unwanted noise as I moved onto Full Rigs captures, so I had to stop with only SRL captures completed. The original Ampeg Jets from the 60s had Jensen P12Q speakers and my Speed Shop A12Q was the closest comparable speaker that I have. See Linked Tones for the IRs of the A12Q. I like to start with the following IR: A12Q 1x12 SM57 1.5in 0.0in.wav Signal Chain: RME UCX II Line Out – United Studio Technology Replay Box at 11.5dBu - Ampeg J-12T - Suhr Reactive Load - RME UCX II Line In at 11.7dBu Input/output calibration metadata for 11.5dBu send/11.7dBu return was filled in during TONE3000 training.
